Eno Memorial Hall Clock Tower - Historical Restoration
Challenge
The project presented several intricate challenges:
Facade Support Bases: The removal, replication, and re-installation of the front facade support bases posed complex logistical and structural challenges.
Lead Paint Remediation: Due to the building's age, lead paint removal was required to create a safe and suitable surface for restoration.
Historical Wood Replication: Preserving the historical authenticity of the building necessitated replicating historical wood elements.
Solution
Facade Support Bases: The contractor carefully removed the support bases, replicating them off-site to match historical specifications. The bases were then re-installed with precision, ensuring structural integrity.
Lead Paint Remediation: The existing lead paint was stripped down to a sound substrate or bare wood, ensuring a safe and clean surface. A high-quality oil primer was applied to all substrates to prepare for painting.
Historical Wood Replication: To preserve the historical wood elements, the contractor engaged in meticulous carpentry and historical wood replication work, replacing and restoring any damaged or deteriorated components.
Painting: After the necessary surface preparation, the contractor applied two full coats of durable acrylic paint, enhancing the facade's appearance and longevity.
Masonry and Epoxy Coating: The project also included masonry repairs and epoxy coating to address issues around the steps and landing of the town hall, improving both functionality and aesthetics.
